Differences Between Stainless-Steel PV Bolts and Carbon-Steel Bolts

Stainless steel is increasingly favored for its corrosion resistance and durability. How do stainless-steel photovoltaic bolts differ from iron-based bolts? Both ironmaking and steelmaking rely on reduction and oxidation reactions, but they serve different purposes: ironmaking reduces iron from ore, while steelmaking removes excess carbon and other impurities from pig iron. Iron-carbon alloys containing less than 2% carbon are classified as steel, while those containing more than 2% are classified as cast iron; from a metallurgical perspective, “stainless iron” is not a standard material designation. Steel is widely used because it combines toughness, elasticity and rigidity. Although buyers often judge stainless steel by whether it rusts or is attracted to a magnet, chromium is the principal element governing corrosion resistance. When chromium content exceeds 10.5%, a protective oxide film forms on the surface and helps prevent further corrosion.
